Safe

I plucked a rock from a mountain

I wrapped it in forgotten ribbon from 9 years ago- a piece of a beautiful bouquet, long gone.

I walked down stairs and through sand.

I walked the same path. I saw the same fence that’s on a picture in your room.

A woman walked near me, she threw a stick for her dog.

I took a deep breath- I’m holding my teddy bear.

And I threw the stone- my own one sided version of fetch.

The ocean enveloped the stone.

The stone that sat on top of the world now sits a bit closer to the bottom.

But it’s safe.

And I always preferred the ocean.
